Classical Tai Chi

 Rooted in the Contemplative Traditions

Rooted in the classical Chinese martial and contemplative traditions, Tai Chi Chuan can be approached as exercise, as martial art, as meditation, as a practice for health and longevity, and as a lifelong art of cultivation.

Yet with time, these distinctions begin to soften.

The martial becomes contemplative.

Movement becomes meditation.

Stillness becomes alive.

Practice becomes a way of listening.

The Art of letting go

Eventually, perhaps, practice becomes less about adding something to ourselves.

It becomes a process of letting go.

Of unnecessary tension.

Unnecessary striving.

Unnecessary resistance.

Until movement becomes simpler.

Breath becomes quieter.

And we begin to glimpse something the contemplative traditions have been pointing toward for centuries:

That peace is not something we acquire.

It is something we learn to stop disturbing.

Tai Chi becomes a practice of returning.
