Rooted in the Contemplative Traditions
There comes a season in our lives when we realize we have spent years building a life, while perhaps quietly losing touch with the one who has been living it, ourselves.
We have done what was asked of us.
We have worked, cared for others and met our responsibilities.
Some of us have built careers and raised families.
We kept our promises and these are good and honourable things. Yet somewhere, often without our noticing, another question begins to emerge.
Who am I becoming?
Not the person others have needed me to be.
Not the person I have been expected to become.
But the person quietly waiting beneath all of those roles.

One that develops the body without neglecting the mind.
Cultivates strength without hardening the heart and teaches discipline without sacrificing kindness.
This is one of the enduring gifts of the classical martial arts.
What begins as movement gradually becomes attention, and what begins as technique slowly becomes presence.
The body learns, breath deepens and the mind becomes quieter.
Not because life becomes easier, but because we learn to meet it differently.

We offer a two class (one week) trial period for all new students to discover if our approach to the Martial Arts is right for you.
What you can expect in our Adult Karate classes
Our adult classes are designed to promote physical and mental fitness, increase concentration and calm, encourage contemplation and develop a new sense of confidence and being through practice.
We believe there is a beginning for everyone in the martial arts.
Five principles components in our Adult Martial Arts;
Kihon (The Fundamentals)
The fundamental techniques found in Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate that include stances and proper postures, strikes, kicks, blocks and movements.
Kata (The way of doing things properly)
Kata is pre-arranged solo movements and technique that simulate defensive and offensive movements from Kihon.
Kumite (Clash hands)
Kumite is partner work, taking what we learn from Kihon and Kata and applying it with a partner.
Self Defence:
Real violence is ugly, sudden, unpredictable and never with a safe and willing partner. Self defence and violence prevention is a major component in our classes, we teach de-escalation techniques, situational awareness and scenario training. We train in the practical application of defensive and offensive skill and the theory behind violence, prevention and self defence.
We encourage families to train together and offer family memberships and discounts.
Within the classical traditions, progress has never been measured solely by what we can accomplish.
It is measured by the quality of our relationship with life itself.
Can we remain present when life is uncertain?
Can we meet suffering without becoming consumed by it?
Can we grow stronger while becoming more compassionate?
Can we cultivate peace without withdrawing from the world?
These questions cannot be answered in a single class.
They are lived.

If you are facing in the right direction, all you have to do is keep walking.

You only have to learn how to be great at one thing to become great at anything you choose.

A person who is peaceful on the inside will not cause harm to others, because what he feels is peace.
